VV Leaf Project Summer 2005 to Spring 2006
Goals:
  • To share and explain different culture methods to propagate African violets and streptocarpus
  • To try new methods or improve our old methods
  • To try new varieties 
  • To share The Growing Experience with other group members
General Schedule (details below):
  • Choose leaves , Sign In, and answer Leaf Project Question #1.
  • Answer monthly update questions.
  • Race to:
    • First Mouse Ears
    • First Babies Transplanted
    • First Bloom On Resulting Plants
This project began July 1, 2005 and will continue until the Virtual Violet Show Spring 2006.
Please Note:
A new Leaf Project will begin in April, 2006.  Details to be announced in April.

  "B & B" Leaf Project Schedule
Intro-
duction
  • Choose one or more leaves of the following types:
    • (vintage) any of the 'Original Ten' African violet varieties, or other vintage variety (registered 25 years or more ago)
    • (standard) any Holtkamp, Smith, or Volkmann African violet variety
    • (semi or mini) any Robinson, Pittman, Hobbs, or Volkmann African violet variety
    • (other) any streptocarpus hybridized by Ford, Lyons, or Martens
  • You may purchase or trade for the leaf/leaves or use leaves from your own plants.
  • No specific varieties were chosen for this project.
July 1-20, 2005 When you have the plant in your growing area:
1) Post a photo of the planted leaf to the B&B Leaf Project photo album
2) Sign the B&B Leaf Project Participants list. 
3) Add your answers to the B&B Leaf Project Question #1 on the B&B Leaf Project message board.
August 2005
through
February 2006
4) Post updates on your leaf/leaves' progress.
5) Continue growing and pampering your leaf/leaves.
Continue to answer questions as they are posted.

  • First Mouse Ears

  • When you first see little leaves poking up from the soil, post a photo and announce the event!
    • SueFru reported first mouse ears at 31 days.

  • First Transplants

  • When you first transplant babies from the mama leaf into individual pots, post a photo and tell us!

7) We will begin to 'Grow to Show'.  You may use one of these projects plants to participate in the Grow To Show project.

FUN:
Earn a FREE plant in 2006, IF you do all of the following:
  • Complete this leaf project, beginning to end
  • Continue to grow at least one of the plants
  • Enter the plant in our 2006 Virtual Violet Show, June 2006.
  • Only one FREE plant per member.
